Airplane Crash- Burke County 01 July 2024

Burke County – On Monday, July 1, at approximately 9:10 a.m., the NC State Highway Patrol responded to an airplane crash in Burke County on Mountain Shadows Drive.  After departing from a private airfield, an ultra-light glider struck several trees and crash-landed into the woods. 

The pilot, Christopher Ryan Short, 45, of Morganton, was transported by medical helicopter to Mission Hospital in Asheville, with non-life-threatening injuries.

The NC Highway Patrol has secured the scene.
