Fatal Collision- Burke County July 4, 2024

Morganton- On Thursday, July 4, at approximately 10:40 a.m., the NC State Highway Patrol responded to and investigated a fatal collision in Burke County in the Steel Creek Park & Family Campground parking lot. A 2019 Chevrolet Silverado was attempting to pull around a building and struck a pedestrian who walked in front of the truck.
The pedestrian, an 18-month-old child, succumbed to her injuries at the scene.
The Silverado driver, Donald Hofford Lambert II, 45, of Prosperity, WV, was not injured.
The initial investigation indicates speed and alcohol were not contributing circumstances in the collision. No charges will be filed in this case.
