Watauga County Declaration of a State of Emergency

Watauga County Administration and Emergency Services have and will continue to monitor Hurricane Helene.  

Based on the latest information received and Helene’s path and intensity; the decision has been made to close all County facilities and suspend operations beginning at 5:00 P.M. on Thursday, September 26, 2024 and remain closed through Friday, September 27, 2024.  

This includes the Community Recreation Center, Transfer Station and all Sanitation Convenience Centers.  Essential personnel will report as determined by the department.  

All County business and facilities will resume operations as regularly scheduled on Saturday, September 28, 2024 depending on storm impact.  

Any change in the decision to resume operations on Saturday will be communicated no later than 5:00 P.M. on Friday, September 27, 2024.
