Home in Todd destroyed by early morning Sunday fire
Creston, Meat Camp, and Todd fire departments along with Watauga Medics, BREMCO, and Watauga County Emergency Services responded to a fire call early Sunday morning in the Pottertown Road area of Todd.
Two occupants of the home were awakened by a carbon monoxide detector alarming. Both were able to escape without injury and were checked out on the scene by Watauga Medics. There were no other reported injuries.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The home was a total loss, with Red Cross contacted to give support to the occupants. The home’s smoke detector was removed recently due to the battery failing from prolonged power outages.
Watauga County Fire Marshal Shane Garland reminds residents to inspect alarms regularly and replace smoke alarms as needed.
