Masks now required at UNC Health Appalachian facilities

UNC Health Appalachian has announced that masks are now required in their facilities.

“Due to a recent surge of viral respiratory infections (influenza and RSV) in our Emergency Departments and across our workforce, patients and visitors as well as our UNC Health Appalachian teammates (including providers and staff) will be required to wear a mask when they are around other people in our facilities. This applies to all UNCHA hospitals, outpatient facilities, and offices, except Appalachian Regional Behavioral Health Hospital.”, UNCHA stated in a social media post.

“This recent surge is particularly concerning because of the large number of children affected and requiring hospitalization. None of us want to transmit these viruses to our other patients, coworkers, and families.”, the post went on to say.

“We will continue to monitor this situation daily. Based on infection numbers, masking requirements may change.”
