Fatal collision involving motorcycle in Watauga on Saturday night
Todd– On Saturday, September 20, at approximately 4:00 p.m., the NC State Highway Patrol responded to and investigated a fatal collision in Watauga County on Pottertown Road near Meat Camp Road. A 1998 Harley-Davidson motorcycle traveling east on Pottertown Road attempted to pass another eastbound vehicle in a no-passing zone, lost control, overturned, and was struck by a westbound 2017 Jeep Compass.
The driver of the Harley-Davidson, Michael Lyn Holman, 51, of Elk Park, was critically injured. He was transported to Atrium Wake-Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, where he succumbed to his injuries on September 22.
The driver of the Jeep, Karen Chyanne Norris, 19, of Creston, was not injured.
Pottertown Road was closed in the area for approximately two hours during the on-scene investigation. The initial investigation does not indicate impairment to be a contributing factor in the collision. No charges will be filed in this case.
