DOT to Close Section of Dewitt Barnett Road for Culvert Replacement

A portion of Dewitt Barnett Road (SR 1114) in Watauga County will close later this week as N.C. Department of Transportation crews replace a large culvert.
The closure will begin at 8 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, near the intersection of Old Hartley Road, between mile markers 0.2 and 0.3 west of Boone. The road will remain closed to traffic in both directions through Friday, Oct. 24, at 3 p.m.
A signed detour will direct drivers along Broadstone Road to N.C. 194 to Bairds Creek Road and back to Dewitt Barnett Road.
DOT officials expect a medium impact to traffic. Work is scheduled to continue around the clock until the project is complete.
Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and allow extra travel time while crews complete the repair.
