Ashe County Middle School Teacher Killed in Crash on Wednesday
On Wednesday, October 22, at around 7 a.m., NC State Highway Patrol responded to a fatal collision on NC 16 near Grindstone Lane in Wilkes County. A northbound 2018 Honda CR-V crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a southbound 2019 Subaru Forester.
The driver of the Honda, Kelly Jordan Holleman, 53, of North Wilkesboro, died at the scene. She was not wearing a seatbelt. The driver of the Subaru, Laurie Christine UK, 61, of West Jefferson, was critically injured and airlifted to Atrium Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.
Investigators report that neither speed nor impairment were factors, and no charges will be filed. NC 16 was closed for about three hours during the investigation.
Holleman was a teacher at Ashe County Middle School, according to Ashe County Pubic Schools.
