BOONE, N.C. — High Country families caring for children and youth with special health care needs are invited to attend “Bloom & Belong with a Splash!” — a free family-centered community event hosted by Appalachian State University’s Parent to Parent Family Support Network of the High Country. The event is set to take place Saturday, June 6, from noon to 3:30 p.m. at the Williams YMCA of Avery County in Linville.
Designed to create connection, joy and belonging, the event will feature an afternoon of storytelling, arts and crafts, music, food, swimming and opportunities for families to build community with others who share similar experiences.
Parent to Parent Family Support Network of the High Country is a program of App State’s Appalachian Institute for Health and Wellness. It serves parents and families raising children and youth with special health care needs throughout the region by providing peer support, education, resource navigation and opportunities for meaningful connection. Events like Bloom & Belong with a Splash! help foster inclusive spaces where families can relax, have fun and feel supported.
Support for the event was provided in part through a Woolly Worm Grant from the Kiwanis Club, whose community fundraising efforts help fund special projects for local youth organizations and enhance learning opportunities for Avery County students.
Admission is free, though families are encouraged to RSVP in advance. More information and registration details are available through the Parent to Parent Family Support Network of the High Country by emailing
