FIREWORKS SAFETY TIPS FROM BOONE FIRE DEPARTMENT
Independence Day Fireworks are always fun to enjoy, but if you fire your own, they can be a safety issue. The Boone Fire Department reminds you to use caution with fireworks.
Every year, almost 13,000 people are injured by fireworks, and each year, and average of 8 people die as a result of fireworks.
The best way to enjoy fireworks is to visit public fireworks displays put on by trained professionals.
If you do plan to do it yourself, remember to never allow children to play or ignite fireworks.
Never stand directly over them when lighting.
Never use them indoors.
Never try to relight duds.
Always stand several feet away from lighted fireworks.
Never wear loose clothing while using fireworks.
Read and follow the instructions and label warnings.
Keep a bucket of water or a water hose handy in case of fire.
Also remember to only use fireworks that are legally sold in North Carolina.
