ASU Faculty Senate met to discuss the Hickory Campus and other projects

Appalachian State University's Faculty Senate met on Jan. 23 at the North End Zone Facility in the Grandview Ballroom to receive reports on the Hickory Campus, rising costs for students and community members, athletic transfer portal planning and strategic plans for university programs.

The Provost presented figures of current and projected Hickory campus enrollment which is set to be approximately 300-500 students in the first year, with best-case-scenario projections showing the campus doubling in size each year for the next five years. The UNC Board of Governors recently passed a resolution requiring all UNC system Colleges of Education to comply with literacy coursework requirements set in 2021. This requirement is part of a refreshed five-year strategic plan from the UNC system that aims to provide more educational opportunities and support for North Carolina veterans, adult students, and Hispanic and Latinx students. Chancellor Sheri Everts has pledged to meet the updated plan.
