The Watauga County Board of Education honored two of it's members
At the February 13th meeting of the Watauga County Board of Education, the Board honored two of its members and one of its longest-serving administrators.
Dr. Gary Childers and Marshall Ashcraft were recognized by the North Carolina School Boards Association for their commitment to continuing education, as the Board had previously been awarded the Gold Bell Award for completing the highest standards of continuing education. Debora Smith, the district's assistant to the school board and assistant to the superintendent, was presented with the WCS Servant's Heart Award for her exemplary service to the board, and her role as the district's lead data manager. Smith, who has been with the school system since 2004, is set to retire from her position at the end of February. At the meeting, Superintendent Scott Elliott thanked both Childers and Ashcraft for their service to the board, and presented Smith with her award.
