BFD is urging people to check their Smoke Alarms
The Boone Fire Department is urging residents to ensure their homes are equipped with working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms as Daylight Saving Time is here.
It's recommended to test and replace batteries in all alarms at least once a year during this time, and to install alarms on all levels of the home, including the basement. Bedroom doors should be kept closed while sleeping, and alarms should be tested monthly while being kept away from the kitchen to minimize false alarms. Smoke alarms should be replaced every 10 years, and lifetime battery alarms should be considered for rooms with high ceilings. In addition, the department is advising residents to create and practice Home Fire Escape Plans with all family members, regardless of the time of day or weather conditions.
