Boone, North Carolina, will soon join the North Carolina Mural Trail with a large-scale portrait of musicians Doc and Merle Watson painted downtown this spring.
The trail celebrates the state's most acclaimed musicians in their birthplaces and currently features 13 completed murals with 10 more planned. Founded by Scott Nurkin 15 years ago, the trail aims to foster pride in host communities and the state. The Watson family has deep roots in Watauga County, and the $20,000 mural will be completed in time for the Boonerang music festival.
