Watauga Pioneers at NC Division 4A Conference

The Watauga Pioneers opened NC Division 4A Conference play with a statement, dominating the South Caldwell Spartans 56-7 on Thursday night. The Pioneers improve to 5-1 overall while the Spartans drop to 4-2. Sophomore quarterback Maddox Greene completed seven of eleven passes for a season-high 146 yards and one touchdown. Greene also tallied 93 rushing yards and a score. Senior running back Will Curtis led the way for the Pioneers with 181 rushing yards off of 24 carries and a career-high five touchdowns. Senior wide receiver Jackson Pryor had another standout game with six catches for 117 yards and one touchdown. Watauga's leading tackler Isaiah Shirley led the way once again with five and a half tackles and a sack. Cole Horine had five more. Trathan Gragg had four tackles and two tackles for loss in his starting debut and Ben Gosky and Carlton Horine had three collective interceptions. Watauga will stay on the road next week as they take on the Alexander Central Cougars next Friday, October 7th. Kickoff begins at 7:30pm that night right here on 96.5 FM and 1450 AM
